Enlarged Prostate SymptomsAgeing is a natural process and with ageing comes a number or uncomfortable symptoms as well. Just like females have to go through a number of problems after menopause, men too have similar discomforts with their reproductive organs as they age.

Enlarged prostate is a very common occurrence among men and most men have some form of prostate enlargement after they hit sixty. While some form of prostate enlargement is natural and may not cause many problems, others can be very severe as to disrupt the elimination of urine and hence require surgical assistance.

Enlarged prostate must be taken very seriously as it can be prostate cancer as well as the symptoms are more or less the same. This makes it very important to treat all kind of prostate symptoms without delay.

Symptoms of Enlarged Prostate

Most men with an enlarged prostate have very severe symptoms that immediately send them to the doctor for a check-up.

Early Signs of Enlarged Prostate

As in the case of all kinds of inflammation, the most common and early sign of enlarged prostate is fever accompanied by chills, nausea and vomiting. Since these symptoms are very common with almost all kind of infections, men normally do not associate it with an enlarged prostate and ignore it until the symptoms become worse and affect their day to day life.

Pain is another important symptom that points to an enlarged prostate. Pain can be concentrated in the perineum, lower abdominal pain, pain while urinating and burning sensation while urination are all early signs of an enlarged prostate. If these symptoms are very identifiable along with fever and chills, it warrants a visit to the doctor.

Symptoms of Advancing Prostate Enlargement

As the symptoms advance, the patient will experience more symptoms that can be extremely traumatising and can tamper with his/her your daily life. This includes strain in passing urine and frequent urination. Urine will also not have a smooth flow and will start coming out in spurts where it will stop and start during the entire process.

Lack of flow will lead to urine getting collected in the bladder and this will lead to urinary tract infection as well. Urination in such cases will become extremely difficult and painful and if not treated in time, the infection can slowly spread to the epididymis, leading to epididymitis. Enlarged prostate along with urinary infection can become very severe in some cases and can lead to hematuria, where the urine will start becoming bloody.

Treatment for Enlarged Prostate

Non treatment of an enlarged prostate can lead to kidney infections, kidney stones, complete blockage of urination etc. Treatment methods include medications that can stop the growth of the prostate and relax the muscles and also surgery in cases where there is complete blockage of urine.

There are also newer options like laser and other microwave treatments which are used for burning the enlarged tissues and relaxing the muscles for easy passage of urine. All these treatment options are completely effective and hence men need not suffer in silence and complicate matters with an enlarged prostate.
