Constipation is a common disturbance of digestive tract. In constipation, the bowels do not function regularly, or are not completely emptied. This condition is the major cause of many diseases as it produces toxins which find their way into the bloodstream and are carried to all parts of the body. 

The most common symptoms of constipation are infrequency, irregularity or difficulty in elimination of hard faeces.

Home Remedies For Constipation

Fruits

Banana and Jackfruit are most beneficial home remedies for constipation.
Bael Fruit is regarded as the best of all laxatives. It cleanses and tones up the intestines. It should be taken in its original form before dinner. Pear is beneficial in the treatment of constipation. Eat medium-sized pear after dinner or with breakfast to relieve chronic constipation.

Taking one or two guavas per day is an effective remedy for constipation. When eaten with seed, it provides roughage to diet and helps in the normal evacuation of the bowels. Grapes have proved very beneficial in overcoming constipation. It is combination of laxative food properties of the cellulose, sugar, and organic acid.

It not only cleans the bowel but also tone up the stomach and the intestines to relieve the most chronic constipation. If fresh grapes are not available use raisins soaked in water overnight. Orange is also beneficial in constipation. One or two oranges twice daily help in stimulating bowels.

This stimulation motivates peristaltic activity and also helps to prevent the accretion of food deposit in the colon. Spinach has been considered to be the most important food for the complete digestive tract. Raw spinach helps in cleansing, reconstruction and regeneration of the intestinal tract.

Take ½ glass of raw spinach juice with an equal quantity of water twice daily to cure constipation. Half a medium sized papaya should be eaten at breakfast as it acts as a laxative. Figs fresh or dry have a laxative effect. Four or five dry figs should be eaten in the morning.

Other Remedies

Squeeze half lime in glass of hot water and add half teaspoon of salt in it to relieve constipation. Keep a glass of water in copper vessel overnight and drink it early in the morning. Take a teaspoon of linseed with water before meals that provides both roughage and lubrication.

Eat fresh radish leaves mixed with black salt to cure constipation. Drink barley boiled in water for constipation. Drink spoonful of olive oil mixed with fresh lemon juice twice daily. It not only helps to cure constipation but also relieves bloating and stomach distention.

Diet

The most important factor in curing constipation is natural and simple diet of unrefined foods such as wholegrain cereals, bran, honey, lentils, green leafy vegetables, fresh and dry fruits, butter, ghee and cream.

Things To Be Avoid

Food should be properly chewed, hurried meals and meals at odd times should be avoided. Do not eat Sugar and sugary foods. White flour, rice, bread, pulses, cakes, pastries, biscuits, cheese, hard boiled eggs are factors responsible for constipations.

Other Measures

Fresh air, outdoor games, walking, swimming and exercise play an important role in strengthening the muscles, and thereby prevent constipation.In constipation, improvement takes place within a matter of days or weeks. If relief is not observed for three to four weeks, seek physicians advice immediately.
